The Hong Kong Jockey Club

Institutional Community Campaign (2012)

Client: The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC)
Celebrity Calligraphy: Andy Lau (劉德華)
Role: Lead Graphic Designer / Vector Calligraphy Digitization Specialist / OOH Layout Lead
Scope: Large-Format OOH Print & Billboard Campaign, Tram & Bus Shelter Advertising, Print Extensions

Project Overview

Led the outdoor print execution for HKJC’s institutional community campaign, serving as the large-format OOH extension of a nationwide television commercial series. The campaign highlighted HKJC’s long-standing contributions to social welfare, community development, and environmental sustainability through three thematic pillars:

  • 善 (Altruism)

  • 群策群力 (Synergy)

  • 珍惜 (Treasure)

Calligraphic Heritage & Digital Precision

Digitized authentic Chinese calligraphy hand-written by Andy Lau (劉德華), transforming expressive ink strokes into ultra-precise vector graphics.

  • Scanned and meticulously vectorized each character

  • Preserved brushstroke texture and fluidity

  • Ensured infinite scalability without pixelation

  • Maintained sharpness even in close-range tram shelter installations

The digitization process balanced artistic authenticity with technical production rigor.

Visual Hierarchy & Spatial Composition

Adopted a clean, high-contrast layout structure that leveraged generous negative space.

Allowed the calligraphic characters to command primary visual dominance while supporting storytelling photography and campaign copy. This restraint amplified emotional resonance and institutional gravitas.
